The short Stress Scan on our website quickly provides an initial impression of stress and potential areas of focus. Sometimes there is a need for greater depth. For this, Centrum voor Stressmanagement can deploy the Stress Mastery Questionnaire (SMQ).

The SMQ is a comprehensive stress assessment from the American Institute of Stress and is administered individually. The results help to better understand where stress originates, which patterns play a role, and where opportunities for improvement lie.

When is the SMQ a suitable next step?

The SMQ can be valuable when you want more insight into your personal stress load and the factors influencing it after an initial scan.

  • you want to better understand what causes stress to build up;
  • you want insight into recurring stress patterns;
  • you notice that recovery is not working sufficiently;
  • you want to determine more specifically where change is possible;
  • you want to use the outcome as a starting point for further guidance.

What is the Stress Mastery Questionnaire?

The Stress Mastery Questionnaire was developed by the American Institute of Stress. The questionnaire maps out various aspects of stress and results in a personal report providing insight into key stress areas and focal points.

The SMQ is not a medical diagnosis. The outcome is used to better understand stress and to determine more precisely what support or change may be appropriate.

How it works

1. First determine whether the SMQ is suitable

We briefly discuss your situation and assess whether the SMQ is a suitable next step. Do you not yet have an initial impression of your stress load? You can optionally start with the short Stress Scan on our website.

2. Requesting a personal SMQ

For each participant, Centrum voor Stressmanagement separately requests access to the SMQ from the American Institute of Stress. Therefore, this questionnaire cannot be started directly and independently via the website.

3. Completing the questionnaire

You will receive personal access to the questionnaire and complete it independently.

4. Personal results

Afterwards, a more comprehensive picture of your stress profile and the areas that require the most attention is generated.

5. Discussing the next steps

The outcome can then be discussed together with Centrum voor Stressmanagement and, if desired, translated into practical next steps or guidance.

From quick scan to in-depth insight

You do not need to start immediately with an extensive assessment. The short Stress Scan on our website is intended as an accessible first step.

If the results indicate that you want to explore further, or if you already know that you need more comprehensive personal insight, the SMQ can be a logical next step in depth.

Personal and careful

The results of an SMQ contain personal information. Therefore, we make clear agreements in advance regarding confidentiality, the use of the results, and any feedback.

When the SMQ is part of a programme through an employer or organisation, it is also agreed in advance which information remains personal and what may potentially be shared in broad terms.

Would you like to request the SMQ?

Contact us or schedule a brief intake. We will first discuss whether the Stress Mastery Questionnaire suits your situation and then arrange the personal request.
